Algonquin College and IgniteAC Launch Summit Program Program

Algonquin College

SUMMIT is a summer intensive entrepreneurship program for students 18-29 that runs from May 9th   July 21st at Algonquin College and is at the core of the government’s Innovation Agenda when we look at how to build an entrepreneurial society.

The SUMMIT organizing team has assembled over 50 workshops offered by industry veterans and specialists who provide knowledge and understanding about the world of entrepreneurship and the diverse skills that are required. Mentors and experts from within and outside of Algonquin College guide the SUMMIT team through workshops, spot slight sessions with seasoned entrepreneurs, off-site (e.g. Shopify) and regular check-ins to keep them moving forward.

Students receive up to $3000 in funding to help move their business ideas forward. Nineteen students are enrolled in SUMMIT 2017. The businesses range from social innovation initiatives like Merissa Reed’s Everybody Eats, a social enterprise focused on improving education surrounding food security, to services like Andrew Reed and Nina Rupert’s Event Space, an app to see and book event space. The entrepreneurs come from different programs within the College (Business Management & Entrepreneurship, Mobile App Development, Child and Youth Care Services, Interior Design, Hospitality and Tourism, Robotics) as well as from outside Algonquin College.

SUMMIT focuses on developing not only students’ businesses’ but also their business acumen and the soft skills that are so necessary for entrepreneurs. We provide our SUMMIT grads with the ability to envision, imagine and create. We introduce them to the entrepreneurial world and give them insight into their capabilities and the confidence to move forward
