from The Barrie Examiner:

Robots are taking over the world and Barrie is welcoming them in with open arms.

Robotic arms, that is.

The City of Barrie is hosting a Manufacturing Innovation Summit on April 20 that will bring together industry leaders to discuss emerging technologies in manufacturing for advanced robotics, the Internet of things and big data.

“We want Barrie to be known as an innovation hub when it comes to advanced manufacturing,” said Neeta Grover, senior strategy and marketing co-ordinator of Invest Barrie, a city agency.

“We’re celebrating the local companies we have that are in the advanced manufacturing and robotics industry, as well as looking at where the industry is going,” she added.

“It will be a great forum to talk to the leaders in the industry to see what’s worked and not worked and where it’s going.”

In partnership with Georgian College and ventureLAB, Barrie has invited representatives from Siemens, Grant Thornton, Memex, Lynch Fluid Controls, ReMap Networks and other leading organizations to share their experience.

The summit will feature keynote speaker Irene Sterian, executive director of ReMap, who specializes in the commercialization of electronics developed in Canada for the global market.
