Humber College’s new building: A green gateway to North Campus

Humber College

When Humber College set out to build its new gateway to the North Campus, sustainability was at top of mind. The Learning Resource Commons – a 260,000 square-foot building – opened in 2015.

The LEED Gold structure includes sustainable features such as 94 per cent construction waste diversion, a green roof, 100 kW of electricity from solar photovoltaic cells, energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems, reserved carpool parking spaces, low VOC paint and low-flow and sensored bathroom fixtures.

The glass-fronted building was constructed with 20% recycled materials and houses a student gallery, the library, health centre, Aboriginal Resource Centre, the International Centre, a math and writing centre and much more.
