Camosun College’s Comic Arts Festival celebrates the artistry of visual storytelling

Camosun College

Camosun College in Victoria, BC, delivers a nationally unique certificate program in Comics and Graphic Novels each year to approximately 30 students. The one-of-a-kind program was created for students who have a desire to learn the language of visual storytelling, and focuses on skills-based learning for six career paths: comic book creation (print & online), comic strips, web comics, graphic novels, storyboards and edutainment comics.

Program creator & instructor Ken Steacy has worked in the comics industry for 40 years as a successful author, art director, editor, and publisher.

Each year, the program’s instructors and students host an annual Camosun Comic Arts Festival to the general public to celebrate the artistic and literary impact of comics & graphic novels locally, nationally, and internationally.

Attendees hear, see and experience the process of visual storytelling, discuss the medium with students, publishers and other fans. Admission is free.
