Situated on Halifax’s waterfront on one of the largest harbours in the world, NSCC is transitioning a former Coast Guard site into a vital resource for Nova Scotia’s ocean sector known as COVE or the Centre for Ocean Ventures & Entrepreneurship.
Once complete in April 2018, the centre will serve as a collaborative facility for applied innovation in the ocean sector. The mission of the COVE partners is to propel the ocean economy by providing high quality marine infrastructure and a collaborative space in which a community of ocean enterprises can start, grow and prosper. The primary goal: to support ocean technology commercialization.
The facility, adjacent to NSCC’s campus on the Dartmouth waterfront, is coming to life with a provincial and federal government investment of $19.7 million through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund.
NSCC President Don Bureaux says, “We are pleased to serve as the lead post-secondary education institution in developing COVE. Working with our partners, we are creating an environment to host high-quality marine infrastructure – a space where ocean enterprises can collaborate, helping to transform ideas into thriving operations. It complements NSCC’s instruction, applied innovation and industry training work in oceans technology and advanced manufacturing.”
