In September 2016, Durham College funded three students – 1 journalist, 1 videographer and 1 culinary – to go on mission to Trujillo, Peru in the context of the college’s partnership with the Centro Experimental de Formacion Profesional (CEFOP) La Libertad through CICan’s Education for Employment (EFE) – Peru program.
Their role was to film, interview and document the project’s successes and build relationships through exchanges of skills with the culinary and broader CEFOP student body. The time spent in Peru and the post-mission work to compile various videos showcasing the project’s successes will be used as part of their required work placement hours.
This activity is a perfect example of internationalization at work. Integrating student experiential learning in an international setting, with the goals and deliverables of a Government of Canada-funded capacity building project, is a critical linkage that supports Canada’s values by fostering generations of Canadians interested in contributing to international development efforts.
